Practices, Scrimmages and Games

#1 question is When are practices and games?

This depends on what level your player is registered for:

Non-Competitive Levels - Boys and Girls PreK age 4- 3rd Grade (also can be by birth year)

The 2023 -2024 season will begin around the end of October/early November. The season typically will go until the first week in March. You can find more information about our Mite Program Here

Lower level Mites 1 &2 (Boys and Girls grades preK - 1st Grade)  typically practice only on Saturdays and Sundays for one hour.  Times are rotated among all teams so everyone has their share of early and later practices. Start times can range from 7am - Noon.

The upper level Mites - Mites 3 & 4 (Boys and Girls 2nd and 3rd grade) practice on Saturdays and Sundays for one hour.  Times are rotated among all teams so everyone has their share of early and later practices. Start times can range from 7am - Noon.   They get a chance to practice at Velocity Training Center in Eden Prairie on Wednesday nights for additional ice time.

Mites 3 &4  participate in scrimmages based on coaches organizing with other associations and ice time. Upper level Mites (3&4) may participate in a local Jamboree towards the end of the season.  Lower level Mites (1 & 2 ) participate in a Lower Mite Festival that WHA hosts at the end of the season.  These both are intended for fun and to give the players an opportunity to put their skills learned throughout the season into play in half ice/quarter ice scrimmage.

Competitive Levels - Grade 4 - 8/9th based on age.

The 2023-2024 season will start with tryouts Sept 30 to October 7th (Bantam, U12 and Peewee) and October 23 - 29 (Squirts and U10). More detailed information on the competitive level tryout page.

Competitive levels can have practices, scrimmages and games multiple days during the week and weekends. Times for these vary based on available ice time. Practices can be held on our home ice or at neighboring arena.  Competitive level teams also as part of their registration, participate in 3 tournaments in a season. Some teams do register for more as a team based on want or availability.

Waconia Hockey plays in District 6 through Minnesota Hockey.

Locker Rooms

When you arrive at the rink, all locker room assignments will be posted on the TV monitor above the front desk.

Assignments will be listed by your practice time and player level.
